Blue Scarab Press announces the publication of “Across the Road”
This gently told story about a boy and his dog, living with his mother miles from town and neighbors, is a coming-of-age tale that hints at more than it tells.  Andra Smith-Hansen renders the tale with poetic restraint, while Linda Wolfe’s illustrations bring the characters to life.
— Blue Scarab press release

“Across the Road” was written by Ammon resident Andra Smith-Hansen and illustrated by Pocatello resident Linda Wolfe. It is a heart-warming tale of a little boy, Timmy, who longs to explore the land along the road near his mother’s house.
When he asks his mother for permission to embark on his adventure, she replies, “You are too little.”
Timmy does not understand this. After all, he is a very smart and very careful little boy.
Months pass and Timmy again asks his mother if he can explore the land near the road. She again tells him no, but also warns him of the dangers of coyotes, bears and moose which may be lurking in the trees.
One day, Timmy’s dog and best buddy, Tito, runs and disappears into the trees near the road . . .
This is great tale because along with the literal story about a curious boy and his dog, it carries a deeper message about coming of age and learning life’s lessons. The reader can see the story from both the mother’s perspective, wishing Timmy to become a little bit older and wiser to life’s surprises, and Timmy’s eagerness to grow up and be a “big boy.”
Linda Wolfe’s 13 original pen and ink drawings are incredibly detailed and add so much to the warmth of the story. It will make a great bedtime story for the kids!
“Across the Road” will debut at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at The Warehouse in Pocatello as part of the Rocky Mountain Writer’s Festival. It is recommended for kids ages seven to 10 years old. Copies of the book will be available at the reading. It is being published by Blue Scarab Press in Pocatello.
