In a fair turnout for a first-year event, ISU Swing Kids swing dance club hosted their first workshop on November 16th and 17th. Shane and Julie Shurtliff, professional swing dancers and instructors, graced us with their presence and dancing knowledge.
The two-day event began with two hours of classes Friday night, covering beginning Charleston and beginning Lindy Hop dance steps. Two hours of dancing with music DJ'ed by the instructors followed the classes.
The workshop resumed early Saturday afternoon with three hours of classes--Intermediate Lindy Hop, Lindy Hop Techniques, and Transitions for all your dancing needs. Shane and Julie also offered private classes for Swing Kids paid members.
The workshop ended on a high flourishing note with the addition of a live band, The Jazz House Big Band, which performed big band style music for a three-hour dance Saturday night. Shane and Julie also provided us with a look at how the professionals do it with a showcase performance.
Pleased with our turnout for this event, scheduling is already in the works to make this an annual event. There will also be another event on April 18th, 2008. For more information, please contact Raederle "Red" Clay by email at clay0029@gmail.com or by phone at 380-0717.
