Tickets go on sale today for a Royal Bliss concert, scheduled in the Ballroom at Idaho State University. The concert is on Thursday, November 29, and tickets are available at Budget Tapes and Records and at the information booth in the Student Union Building. Cost is $10 presale and $12 at the door. Somewhere In The Middle and The Unread will open.

Royal Bliss, from nearby Salt Lake City, is perhaps best known for their rock ballad Devils and Angels, with significant support and airplay on KBER and other local radio stations. Other singles that have done well include Stand Corrected, Brave, and Here They Come, all off of their most recent self-produced album “After the Chaos II.”

In June of this year, Royal Bliss signed with the major record label, Capitol Music Group, who recently absorbed Virgin Records with Capitol Records. The band spent August and September recording a new record at The Commune, a recording studio in Oregon.

I recently had a conversation with Taylor Richards, guitarist for Royal Bliss. To read the interview, please visit www.thejhub.com/home/Blog/LAlexander.

Tomorrow, the 15th, the local indie rock band Spondee is scheduled to play a lunchtime set at the Rendezvous Complex on campus.

Also on Thursday, the First National Bar is pleased to welcome Scott Murphy and Will Petersen as their featured folk rock performers at the weekly open mic, hosted by “Downtown” Dan Hillebrant.

On Friday the 16th, Alpha Psi Omega and ISU USITT present Take Over Tuesday headlining a concert of local rock and folk rock bands with Greyhouse Effect and Amber Lynn. Cost is $5 for ISU students and $7 for the general public at the Bistline Family Theater in the ISU Performing Arts Center.

Fans of Take Over Tuesday will remember when they opened for Quietdrive last month, which was an awesome show. There was a real supportive response from the crowd that night, almost overwhelming and certainly exciting for Take Over Tuesday.

Since that night, the members of TOT have had their share of drama. Jeremiah Baker (vocals, piano) broke his angle and had surgery to remove a piece of chipped bone, the second surgery in a month. Todd Welch (bass) also had some bad luck shortly after the show; all of his equipment was stolen out of his car. The band is organizing a man hunt for whoever stole his stuff and is offering a cash reward for information leading to the recovery of the equipment. Welch and his wife are expecting a baby in December.

Take Over Tuesday reports that they have written some new songs and each seems to get better and better. They are all excited to have everything recorded when the funds permit. “Our fan base is growing and this motivates us to work harder at keeping their respect.”

Taps Bar on Garrett Way and Duffy’s on Main are two mainstay venues bringing great rock and country cover bands to the area. Taps is hosting Rukkus on Friday and Saturday, and Kaught Lookin is playing at Duffy’s on Friday night only.

This weekend at Portneuf Valley Brewing, Dan Hillebrant and Barbara Shaw from Pocatello will perform blues, R&B and folk rock on Friday. On Saturday, singer/songwriter Liz Snavely and special guest Jill Brezezicki from Grand Rapids, Michigan will be performing acoustic indie folk rock.  The shows start at 8 p.m., and there is no cover charge. For more information see www.myspace.com/danhillebrant and www.myspace.com/lizsnavely.

On Saturday the 17th, a benefit concert for the local food bank features Laguna Beach guitarist and folk singer Mark Turnbull and Dallas musician Mark Austin at 7:30 p.m. in ISU's Goranson Hall in the Fine Arts building. This event is co-sponsored by the Student Activities Board and the Progressive Student Alliance.

Mark Turnbull received a Grammy nomination as a 17 year old for "A Happy Birthday Party with Winnie the Pooh" and Billboard magazine listed Turnbull along with Randy Newman and Bob Dylan as some of the finest songwriters of their time. The Los Angeles Times called his "One Man Show" the best solo performance of the year.

Mark Austin has been compared to bass legend Jaco Pastorius, receiving "Alternative Artist of the Year" and "Album of the Year" awards from New Artist Radio and the Independent Musicians Network, Kweevak.

Donations for this concert will be accepted in lieu of ticket sales. As a benefit for the food bank, patrons are also encouraged to bring non-perishable items. More on the artists can be found at www.spiritfest.com.
