    In Greek Mythology, Ixion was the King of Lapiths. He was responsible for committing the first act of murder. The band added an extra “x” to the name.

    POCATELLO — Although most bands come from very different backgrounds, Idaho Falls based band Ixxion takes that truth to another level. Not only do the come from different backgrounds and from listening to different musical styles, they all come from different states.
    Gage, the band’s drummer, is the only member from Idaho, he is from St. Anthony.  Jesse, singer and guitar player is from Colorado, Dave, guitarist, is originally from Arizona, and Jeff, the bass player, is from Texas, although he has lived in 14 different states.
    When asked how he came to be in Idaho he said, “It’s a long story,” but went on to explain that his father was a truck driver.
    Because of this, they did not grow up together and have only known each other for about a year and a half. They met mainly through word of mouth. Jesse wanted to be in a band and hung up some flyers around town. Then, through talking to people and responses to the flyers, Ixxion came together.
    The thing the guys in Ixxion emphasize the most is that their differences are also their strength. Their different musical backgrounds can be heard in their live performance. Within five or six songs, one can hear modern rock and metal being spliced with eighties metal and tossed with a dash of grunge.
    When asked to describe their unique musical style, Dave said, “Modern metal with roots.”
    Although they all grew up listening to different styles of rock, they all share the fact that they grew up hating country music.
    Jeff has a real reason to dislike it.
    “When we were kids, that was our punishment. To sit in a corner and listen to country music. Seriously,” he said.
    Ixxion said that they are influenced by almost every kind of music.
    “If you can name a band that has distorted guitars, they influenced us,” said Jesse, “All our influences mesh together. We are all a different corner.”
    Another interesting factor, and at least a partial reason for their musical differences is their age differences. Gage is the youngest memeber at 21 and Jesse is 22 while Dave and Jeff are both 30.
    Most bands start out with a goal to make it big, and Ixxion is no different. The unanimous decision when asked about the future of the band was, “to make a living.”
