Elmoyne Brewer Hansen Hanks was born October 6th, 1907.  She was born in St Charles and graduated from High School at Fielding Academy in Paris, Idaho. In December of 1929 Elmoyne married Dean Hansen of Tetonia. Three children were born into this loving family; George Hansen and Carolyn Vesser of Pocatello and Dean Hansen of Sandy Utah.  She was widowed and later married Theodore “Ted” Hanks.  Elmoyne has 4 stepchildren from her second marriage. She is also blessed with 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

When Elmoyne was only 17 she started her teaching career.  She graduated from Idaho State University in 1957 after attending many classes as Ricks College and Idaho State University.  Elmoyne was a teacher for many years with the Pocatello School district and retired in 1969.

Elmoyne was recently inducted into the ISU Alumni’s Golden Bengal’s for being a 50 year graduate of Idaho State University.  What a special honor for her to know that she is being remembered for all her hard work. There was a special luncheon held on October 5th in the ballroom of the Pond Student Union Building and 18 members of her class were in attendance.  Her eldest son George Hansen accepted the award for his mother as she was unable to attend.

Elmoyne is a wonderfully caring person you never left her home without taking home some of her wonderful canning. Elmoyne was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  As a homemaker she would take on a project and see it through to the end.  Canning, baking, crocheting, gardening; she could do it all.   There are many fine memories her family will cherish for many years to come.

Elmoyne has seen many things in the past 100 years.  She is as proud of her children and grandchildren as they are of her.

A nice remembrance from a family friend.

In Teton Valley the Hansen’s were very dear friends of my family.

Elmoyne started attending a writing class at the Senior Citizen’s Center in 1981 that I was teaching.  Maybe you have heard of the Bonneville Writers? Everyone in the class was always enchanted by the poetry she produced. Elmoyne has been included in the Annual Writing Book produced by the class every year since.

Elmoyne has always been a dear person and always very generous.  You never left her home without taking a bottle of pickles or jelly that was homemade with love.
