Annual Boy Scout Popcorn Sale Kicks Off

In an annual rite of Fall, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts local and all over the country are starting to go door-to-door selling popcorn to fund their Scouting activities.  Some Scouting units will also be selling popcorn in front of some local stores.  May Packs and Troops rely on this annual sale to support their activities throughout the year, like Pinewood Derby Races and Summer Camps.  Some Scouts sell popcorn to help raise money so they can attend leadership training camps and to attend the National Jamboree in 2010 in Virginia, so they can join in the historical celebration of the 100^th anniversary of Scouting.  The sale also allows Scouts to earn prizes and scholarship money for college.  On average 70% of the proceeds from the popcorn sales goes directly to support local Scouting.

For the second year, Scouts will be taking orders for popcorn to be sent to U.S. Troops serving all around the world.  Consumers have the option to donate $25 that will be used to send popcorn treats to service men.  Last year, Scouts shipped a total of more than 300 tons of popcorn to troops around the world.

Popcorn products that are available this year are: Chocolate Heaven  5-Way Chocolate Lover’s Tin, Chocolate Carmel Cheese Savory & Sweet 3-Way Tin, Say Cheese It’s the cheesiest 3-Way Tin, Get your kicks with our mix of Trail Mix, Gotta have my chocolate Chocolaty Carmel Crunch, Go Nuts Gourmet Carmel, Lighten up Carmel corn Light, Microwave Kettle Corn, Microwave Unbelievable Butter,  and Microwave Butter Light.

Look for Scouts coming around your neighborhood to take orders.  Delivery of ordered popcorn will take place the first part of November.  Remember that popcorn in these great designer tins make great Christmas presents.  If you do not know a Scout selling popcorn and want to support Scouting or give popcorn to the military go to the Pocatello Scout Office at 2306 Pocatello Creek Rd or call them at 233-4600 and they will be glad to help you.  Be part of America’s Popcorn Sale!
