The Bear Lake Valley Health Care Foundation's 9th Annual Golf 'FORE' Health will take place this Saturday, August 23rd at the Montpelier Golf Course. The annual event is one of the Foundation's major fundraisers. The money raised by the event is used to provide free comprehensive blood profiles to senior citizens in the Montpelier Area at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital Senior Health Fair in April. Many businesses in the Bear Lake area sponsor the event that provides this vital service to area Seniors.
This year, Pinks Sofa and Sleep Center is the lead sponsor. Major sponsors are Agrium, the Montpelier Golf Course and Zions Bank. Tapper Motors Inc. is sponsoring the Hole-in-One contest. Anyone getting a hole-in-one on a specified hole during the first round will win a 2008 pickup truck. Driving Range Sponsor is the Bear Lake Motor Co. and Putting Green Sponsor is the Jensen-Wood Motor Co. The Montpelier Golf Course, Pro Ted Slivinski and his staff host the event and do a tremendous job in keeping everything running smoothly and helping the players enjoy the event.
The day starts with breakfast provided by the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Each player is given a goodie bag. This year the bags will include a golf towel and a hanging toiletries bag. After a shotgun start, players, in randomly selected teams of 4 that include an A, B, C and D skill level player compete for 18 holes. The winning team, 2nd and 3rd place teams receive gift certificates from Ted's Pro Shop. Prizes are also given for longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt and shortest drive and other competitions. At the end of the competition, players enjoy lunch, a raffle and silent auction. Lunch this year is Rod's Ribs, dutch-oven ribs by chef and Hospital Administrator Rod Jacobson. Broulim's Grocery and Jensen Market contributed toward the lunch as well. The tourney raffle prizes will be a PING driver valued at over $300 and an automobile remote starter system donated by the Buzz Shop in Pocatello.
The Bear Lake Valley Health Care Foundation Board and Auxiliary members volunteer during the event and contact local businesses for Hole Sponsorships, raffle and auction items.
The Golf 'FORE' Health has a loyal following and the Foundation appreciates the players, businesses and volunteers who help make it possible for Senior Citizens to receive life-saving health screenings by supporting the Golf 'FORE' Health.
