POCATELLO — After about a year and a half on the local music scene, the three piece alternative/accoustic group will soon be no more. But that doesn’t mean that the fans can’t still get their fix of their original soothing blues style. Singer and guitar player Joe Hunt plans on carrying on with a solo project when the other band members move away to pursue other interests.
Bass and keyboard player Matt White will be moving to Chicago to go to chiropractic school and drummer Seth Kasunick, who happens to be Joe’s bother-in-law, will also be moving away soon.
“I am gonna keep playing solo and meeting people and see what fits,” said Joe about his upcoming solo adventure.
Joe said that while growing up his father was a huge inspiration to him.
“My dad is a phenomenal guitar player and I have always wanted to be. I watched him, as long as I can remember,” he said.
Although he grew up listening to the such classic artisits as the Beatles, James Taylor, Pink Floyd and the Doobie brothers and watched his dad playing guitar, he did not take the instument serious until he was 21.
Joe is also the lyricist for The Greyhouse Effect and the inventor of the name. He has written all of the songs with the exception of “Move On,” which was written by Matt.
As far as the name goes, Joe combined his favorite color with a term heard commonly in today’s day and age.
“I was trying to find something that nobody else had, I would search myspace or google it,” he said.
After searching all the names he had come up with and discovering that they had all already been taken, he decided to get back to the basics.
“Grey is my favorite color and it some how combined into the greenhouse effect.”
Although they have not recorded any albumns, they play frequently in Southeast Idaho.
“We’ve done mocha madness and college market and we like playing at ISU when ever  we can, we try to mix it up.”
Joe said that he enjoys playing smaller venues like coffee shops but also likes the bigger shows.
“I like the atmosphere of it (coffee shops), but at the same time the bigger the crowd the bigger the show, the more people that are there the more I get into it,” he said.
The Greyhouse Effect’s next show will be Nov. 8 at noon at the Rendezvous Center on the Idaho State University campus.
