MARSHALL PUBLIC LIBRARY’S CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Rededication and Open House Monday August 25, 2008

To celebrate 100 years of community enrichment, the Marshall Public Library is hosting a rededication and open house on August 25, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

After the Masons performed the cornerstone dedication ceremony in October 1907, the new Pocatello Public Library celebrated its grand opening in August 1908. Pocatello’s new library had 1103 books and 478 registered borrowers that first year. Today the Library collection contains over 150,000 items and has over 40,000 registered users.

On August 25, a rededication ceremony, once again performed by the Masons, will begin at 5:00 p.m. followed by public tours of the 100 year old Carnegie building which now houses library administration and technical services. Tours of the current Marshall Public Library, which opened in 1994, will also be part of the event. Historical information and displays about Pocatello history and life in 1908 will be exhibited and refreshments will be available. Century old piano music performed by Gerald Hughes will be enjoyed during the evening.
