Big Freaking’ Event 2008 has been set for Friday, Aug. 29 at Sandy Downs in Idaho Falls. This fourth year of BFE will welcome local bands The Unread, Aaron Ball, and Dr. Suess is Dead. Major bands will be The Sammus Theory, Jet Black Stare, Red, Everlast, Hawthorne Heights and Shinedown will headline.
Tickets for the event are $45 in advance and $50 at the gate day of show. They can be purchased at Budget Tapes and Records in Pocatello, CD World in Idaho Falls or online at Ticketweb.com. The gates will open at 2:30 p.m. and show begins at 3:30 p.m.

SHINEDOWN
Shinedown formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 2001, and after several lineup changes now consists of Brent Smith on vocals, Barry Kerch on drums, Zach Myers on guitar, Nick Perri on guitar and Eric Bass, ironically as the band’s bass guitar player.
Smith and Kerch are the only two original members, Myers joined the group as a touring guitarist in 2005, and Parri and Bass joined in 2008.
Shinedown’s first album, “Leave a Whisper” featured the hits “Fly From the Inside” and “45,” which was banned from MTV because the song is about suicide. The album eventually went platnuim. The album was re-released a year later with a cover of the Lynyrd Skynard song “Simple Man,” which the group dedicated to deceased Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abott, who was shot while performing a show in December 2004.
The group’s second album, “Us and Them” was released in 2005. The single “Save Me” reached number 1 on the Active Rock Charts. Another single “I Dare You” was performed by Chris Daughtry on American Idol. “Heroes” was the third single of the album.
The third album, “The Sound of Madness” was released on June 24, 2008. The first single, “Devour” has already been very successful.
HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS
Hawthorne Heights was formed in Dayton, Ohio in June of 2001. In 2007 the band’s original guitarist and vocalist Casey Calvert died of an accidental overdose on Nov. 24, 2007. He was found dead on his tour bus the day after the band kicked off ther U.S. tour. He was only 26 years old.
The band was origially called “A Day in the Life,” but after several lineup changes they changed the name to Hawthorne Heights. The first album, “The Silence in Black and White” came out in 2004. The song “Ohio is for Lovers” was the most notable from that album.
The second album, “If Only You Were Lonely” was released in 2006. It featured the single “Saying Sorry.” The third album is set to be released on Aug. 5.
EVERLAST
Erik Schrody, ak.a. “Everlast” is most well-known for his hit song “What It’s Like,” which was released in 1998. Before his solo career, he was the frontman for the rap group House of Pain.
His 1998 solo album “Whitey Ford Sings the Blues” sold more than 3 million copies. In 2000 he won a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by Duo or Group after he performed “Put Your Lights On” with Santana on their 199 album “Supernatural.” Everlast’s fifth album, “Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford” will be released on Sept. 23, 2008. It will feature a cover of the Johnny Cash song “Folson Prison Blues.”
RED
Red is a Christian rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. Their debut album, “End of Silence” was released in 2006 and featured the singles “Breathe Into Me” and “Let Go.” The album was nominated for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album” at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards.
“Breathe Into Me” won the “Rock Record Song of the Year at the 38th annual GMA Dove Awards in 2007.
JET BLACK STARE
Jet Black Stare formed in Vancover, Canada in 2007. The band members are: Rod Black, singer/songwriter; Shane, bassist; Dan, drummer; Flip, guitarist; and Dave, guitarist.

THE SAMMUS THEORY
The Sammus Theory is based in Phoenix, although lead singer Sammus is originally from Idaho Falls. Other band members are Kyle Weinel on rhythm guitar, Brian Henry on bass, Jeremy Tabor on lead guitar and Dan Johnson on drums.
The Sammus Theory are one of MTV2’s “Bands on the Rise.” They have released two full length albums, “Man Without Eyes” and “See It Through,” and a four song EP entitled “Leaders of Decay.”
