AUSTIN, TEXAS — Road tested country five-piece Micky and the Motorcars, ready to play for the crowd tracks from its new, fourth album, NAIVE (Smith Entertainment; July 29, 2008) will headline the Saturday night lineup at the three-day music gathering known as the annual Braun Brothers Reunion in Challis, set for Aug. 7 through 9.
Mickey and the Motorcars is scheduled to take the Community Stage at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, wrapping up days of performances by the best artists and bands in the country, alt-country and roots rock, Reunion veterans and newcomers, friends and family bands.
Writes Muzzie Braun reunion host: "In the nearly 30 years of gathering our friends and families together for this party, I can truly say I believe that this year will stand out as one of the most memorable — not only for all the musicians, friends and family members, but for all those that make the special effort to travel from all over the country to attend and be a part of the festivities . . . without you, the fans and appreciators of live music, this party would still be a backyard BBQ."
Besides Micky and the Motorcars — Micky Braun, lead vocals and guitars; older brothers Gary, harmony vocals, harmonica and electric guitar, Idaho childhood friend of Mark mcCoy, bass guitar; Kris Farrow, lead guitar and Shane Vannerson, drums and percussion — the Saturday lineup will include local songwriter Pinto Bennett and Cross Canadian Ragweed, back at the Reunion for a third time.
Tickets at the gate are $40 for a one-day pass, $70 for a two-day pass for adults, $15/$25 for children age 12 and younger. Advance tickets are discounted $33/$60 for adults, $12.50/420 for children when purchased online at www.brownpapertickets.com
More than 3,000 music lovers are expected to attend the festival, camp, dance, eat, relax and enjoy the party throughout the weekend. For the complete musical lineup visit www.braunbrothersreunion.com
The Braun Brothers Reunion kicks off at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 with a free public street dance on Challis' Upper Main Street featuring the Original Braun Brothers Band (led by Muzzie Braun) and the Randy Rogers Band.
Reckless Kelly and Robert Earl Keen, who is returning for a second year, make their only Reunion appearances on Friday, Aug. 8, finishing the Festival's first full day and following acts like singer-songwriter Kathleen Braun and Austin guitarist and longtime reunion friend veteran George Devore.
Almost 30 years ago, Western swing band leader Muzzie Braun began hosting a music gathering with friends and family musicians. This year, the two bands of his four sons — Micky and the Motorcars with Micky (the youngest) and Gary as well as Recklass Kelly, which just released "Bulletproof" with Willy and Cody — will both headline a day's performances at what has become the Braun Brothers Reunion.
The younger Brauns grew up in the remote Idaho mountains making music with their father Muzzie and the Boys, and now they're carrying out the family's legacy, one that includes a grandfather who in the 1950s shared his music as house/piano/organ player at a casino in Jackpot, Nevada.
