When I was a child, and my mother would ask me how much chocolate cake I wanted, my eyes would get bigger and I would ask for the biggest piece she was willing to give me. Later, I would regret asking for and eating the whole thing as I felt sick for a while.I think a similar thing happened when the PMC board with help from city officials decided to undertake a multimillion dollar expansion of the hospital's West Campus without adequate funds to cover the costs. Now, in order to complete the West Campus expansion, and bring in services that we traditionally referred patients to places like Salt Lake City in order recieve, we have to take on a, "For Profit", partner that will own 80% of the hospital. The five board members chosen by Lifepoint or Legacy, represent the money. That makes the five board members chosen from this area nothing more than an advisory committee. I have always favored living with in our means and giving pink slips to national, state and local officials who have bigger dreams than the rest of us can afford.
