Pocatello Garden Club's annual iris sale will be held Saturday, July 19 at Farmers Market in Old Town. Sale hours are 9:00 to noon.
The sale will feature iris from prize-wining local gardens as well as a prime selection from Mid-America Gardens in Oregon. Mid-America is a leading hybridizer and specializes in exotic color combinations. The sale is the club's only fund raiser and the revenue from the sale determines the locale and events at next year's show.
'Local gardens show some marvelous older or historic iris, but those gardens also should include the 'great-grandaughters' as well', said Carole Taft of the Club. Modern iris, she explained, have a longer bloom time, stronger stalks, more flower buds and larger flowers. Some can rebloom if watered and lightly fertilized.
