According to the eSchool News (5/2, Stansbury) "Educators and employers agree that creativity is increasingly important in U.S. workplaces," stated a report from the Conference Board and Americans for the Arts. The study also "suggests a disconnect exists between what survey respondents say they believe and how they act: In fact, findings indicate most high schools and employers provide creativity-conducive education and training only on an elective or 'as needed' basis."
We are lucky enough to have a school here in Pocatello that places a strong emphasis on the visual and performing arts, with a focus on learned creativity. The school is operated by the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist but is interdenominational and non-profit- it is the Franciscan Cre-Act (Creative-Acting) School. The school is a fully-accredited private school located in Old Town- Corner of W. Benton and S. Grant Streets.
My child has attended this school for the last four years and I have watched her blossom into a fantastic little person. She excels on her ISATS (Yup- the students take them) and she can think "out of the box" too. She is in a mixed grade classroom so she works at her own level. The children all know each other, the older kids help the younger kids and the teachers know every child in every grade. There are no gangs, no sex and no drugs at this school. This past year, there were twelve kids in my childs class. Amazing. Frankly, I am amazed that more parents in this town don't flock to this school with all the craziness going on in the World. I want my child to be able to problem solve and have the skills she will need to succeed in her future. Yes, it is an investment but my child is worth it. I am all for "creativity-conducive education and training."
