A young couple from Pocatello, Andrew E. and Julie Durrant have tanken over control of the dinner theater located in Island Park. The couple met in Pocatello in 2006 while working on a production of "Footloose" at the Mystique Theater. Andrew was the manager at the theater and was directing the show at the time. He was seen on stage in Pocatello as Nathan Detroit in "Guys and Dolls" and also as Rooster in "Annie." Andrew, a Utah native, was also credited with directing a handful of shows at the Mystique during the 2006 season. Julie, a native of Pocatello, has been in several shows at the Mystique which include:"Grease," "Footloose," "Cinderella," and in the 2006 Grand Illusion Show. Julie will take a break from the stage this year as the couple is expecting their first child mid way through the season.
The couple is thrilled to be fulfilling a dream of operating their own dinner theater. Andrew is a 2006 graduate of BYU-Idaho where he received a degree for the undertaking with a bachelors in business management and a minor in theater arts. This will mark Andrew's fourth year performing in the shows at Mack's Inn and Julie's second year. The couple spent last summer performing, directing and managing other parts of the resort. Pocatello is home for the couple in the off-season.
"This year we have some really great performers and some hilarious shows which I think people will find very entertaining!" Andrew says, "We have also been able to pull some incredible talent from the Pocatello area to feature at the Playhouse this year."
Among the cast is Pocatello native Stephen Michaud, who has been seen on stage extensively in Pocatello as Ren in "Footloose" and Marius in "Les Miserable: School Edition."
The show this year includes musical comedies "Phantom of the Grand Ole Opry" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sun Burnt Kid." Both shows are family friendly and tickets can be purchased with or without dinner.
"These two shows have been a lot of fun to put together and those who have come thus far have found the musical tweks on the classic tales really entertaining," Julie continues, "Also, with gas prices on the rise we hope to be an outlet for those families looking for a fun memory close to home."
