One of the many great things about the band AndeConda is that if you have lived in this area for a few years you have probably heard of them. Another great thing is their ability to adapt and change and yet remain comfortably the same.
AndeConda was formed in 1994 by Richard Green, who is the vocalist, lead guitarist and only remaining foundng member. He says that over the years he has had the opportunity to perform with the areas finest musicians and has a love for performing live.
Jeff Beery, lead vocalist, joined the and in 1999, although he has been performing professionally since 1982.
“I played my first ‘professional’ gig in a club in Pocatello called The Billiard Den in 1982,” he said.
He also says that he loves being in AndeConda.
“This band has been good to me and lets me do what I want as a singer. Can’t ask for much more than that.”
Ronny Moore is the lead guitarist for the band and also does back-up vocals. He enjoys all kinds of music, from Bach to rock and roll and everything in between, although he cites his major influences as Steve Vai and Randy Rhoads. Originally from Seattle, he has performed throughout the West in both original and cover bands. He writes and records his own original songs as well as performing with AndeConda.
Chris Anderson has been playing drums for almost 20 years, and has been a member of the band since 2006. He has played with local bands such as Bag of Bones, South Haze, Snake Bones and E-Z Money. He also contributes vocally. Musically he is influenced by KISS, Black Sabbath and Megadeth.
Brian Miera is the band’s bass player and has been a musician since he was 11 years-old.
“I am originally a guitarist, but my older brother is a phenomenal bass player and I would always sneak into his room and jam his bass when he wasn’t around so I got pretty good at it, kinda picking up his style and licks along the way,” he said.
Miera joined AndeConda last June and said he loves playing in the band.
“I am enjoying playing with AndeConda immensely and I try to convey that in my live performace,” he said.
Mier also said that he has been contributing to benefit shows for 15 years, including a benefit for the family of Cassie Jo Stoddart.
“My theory is that if you have a talent and you can use that talent to better someone’s life, or to help them in some way, then you should try to do that,” he said.
His musical influences include Rush, Led Zepplin, Pantera and Metallica.
An interesting fact about the band that many people don’t know is the origin of the name. The original drummer of the band had a brother named Donny who passed away. Donny’s nickname had been “Andeconda,” hence the band was named after him.
A misconception about AndeConda is that they just play classic rock covers, but that is not true, according to Miera.
“We can throw down the heavy metal too, we want to be diverse, we want to be able to play the atmosphere that is there,” he said, “Fifty percent of any band is their stage presnece and how they interact with the crowd.
Miera said their song list included classic rock as well as modern hits. Their song list includes “Krytonite” by Three Doors Down, “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn,” by “Poison”, “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne, and “Gimmie Three Steps” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. They also play songs from modern rock bands Buckcherry and Finger Eleven.
AndeConda’s next show will be at 9 p.m. this Saturday at the First National Bar in Pocatello. For more information on AndeConda, check out their myspace page at www.myspace.com/andeconda
