On a clear September morning my friend Kath Ann and I took our bikes on a 50+ mile tour of the roads that run through the Portneuf Valley of Southeast Idaho. This was not a typical weekend ride though. We were joined by her husband, Jimmy Hendricks (yes-thee Jimmy Hendricks) and about ten or fifteen other early morning cycling enthusiasts. The lovely Portneuf valley cradles our lovely city of Pocatello, Idaho and is the site of the “Tour D Vin.” Like it’s namesake (I assume) the tour features a bike ride through lush, beautiful, bucolic, scenery, and ends with wonderful wine,and tasty treats that cap off the festivities and athletics of the day. The “Tour D Vin” was my maiden voyage into the world of road biking, and I could not have asked for a more gorgeous day, or a better friend to make my cycling debut. Kath Ann is a cycling enthusiast extraordinaire, a model of patience, she guided, coaxed, and cheered me on so well that I am going to even give her credit that I was not sore the next day (smiles).
