It’s under our feet and under our fingernails, but what is it? And how did it get there? Inspired by William Bryant Logan’s acclaimed book "Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth," find out how industrial farming, mining and urban development have led us toward cataclysmic droughts, starvation, floods and climate change. Performing at major festivals and performing arts centers across the United States, Shana Banana has earned many prestigious...

Jen: Since your dad was a producer, it seems like you have been in music all your life.  When did you start playing the piano and guitar?

Brad, vocalist for the group and Mark’s brother, acredits the win to hard work and appreciation for the fans.

“Every band needs to be given a shot,” said Brad, “We show up to every show with all of our bells and whistles just ready to play. We actually come in and hang out with the fans.”

Failure is a pretty strong word, I know. Don’t get me wrong; I liked “Avatar."  I really did.  I, too, sat mesmerized and hypnotized as the luscious scenery worked its way across the screen and the vibrant rich colors and exotic animals and the “semi-cat” natives of Pandora rallied their defenses. What’s not to like? It was an awesome 3-D experience.

I’m not even sure I have it quite yet, but I’m at least ready to talk about it in hopes that it will work its way out of my system.

Along with what was right about it, there was something wrong with “Avatar.” There, I said it. “Avatar” was anything but an original experience, even while having the dressings, or better yet,...
