Smokeless Drinkless Regional Singles group will have their opening social May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Alameda Park in Pocatello. The group is nondenominational and welcomes singles of all age, with or without children. All activities are non-smoking and non-drinking. There will be a potluck followed by volleyball so please bring something to share. For more information or to offer ideas or volunteer, call 237-0665.
Idaho State Civic Symphony will present its final concert April 30 at the Jensen Grand Concert Hall of the Stephens Performing Arts Center at Idaho State University at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. School District 25 will meet April 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the board room of the Education Service Center, 3115 Pole Line Road, Pocatello. Agenda is to primarily hear background relative to declarations of financial emergency and reduction in force, a public hearing and possible action taken on such, policy adoptions or deletions, award bids for roof replacement and asphalt removal and replacement plus an executive session. The last spring classroom for Sah-Wah-Be Southeast chapter of the Idaho Native Plant Society will be May 4 at 7 p.m. in the Museum of Natural History at Idaho State University. There will be a presentation of photos by several people that include native plants from the area and a trip to Tucson, Ariz., on which 24 members of the chapter made. Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency announces an open house May 2 celebrating the completion of five homes with the Mutual Self-Help Housing program. The open house will be May 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The homes are located on Snow Peak Boulevard off Old Highway 91 in the Rocky Mountain Subdivision about one mile up Inkom Road. Citizens Community Bank will offer a “Tax Day Community Document Shredding Event” April 28 at 280 S. Arthur Ave., Pocatello from noon to 1:30 p.m. Watch your documents being shredded and enjoy a free barbecue. Purpose of the shredding is to prevent identity theft. The family of  Merlin and Rachel Christiansen is  holding a open house  to celebrate the 60th Wedding Anniversary  of Merlin  and Rachel on Saturday  April 25th at the Pocatello  LDS West Stake House ( 3444 Hawthrone Road ) from 1 to 3 PM, in the multi-purpose room.  Enter through patio on south side of building.  

They are life long residents of Pocatello and have lived in several areas of the city and in Chubbuck. .  They have 6 children , 18 grandchildren and  21 great-grand children.

Merlin worked at Kraft Foods after returning from Naval service during Word War II and continued until he retired from Kraft's in 1989.

Rachel  worked with her mother Matilda Galloway  in the 1950 and 60's  in running the Wee Amble Drive Inn  later called Galloway's on Pole LIne Road  and then at Montgomery Wards and Electrical Wholesale. 

They are active members of the LDS Church and have served missions in Alberta, Canada, Salt Lake City  at the Family History Center,  and with the Bannock Creek Branch in Fort Hall. ...
Freshwater ecologist Alan Covich will deliver the presentation, “The Importance of Freshwater Ecosystem Services in a World of Changing Climates” April 30 at 4 p.m. in Room 10, Idaho State University Lecture Center Building 67, Gale Life Science Building. It is the second G.W. Minshall Lecture in Ecology, an annual lecture series sponsored by the ISU Department of Biological Sciences. Janet C. Anderson Resource Center at Idaho State University will hold observance of Equal Pay Day April 28 in Suite B, Rendezvous Center.  Idaho State University Bengal Dancers will hold tryouts for next year’s squad April 30 at 7 p.m. in Reed Gymnasium Room 208. “Spay-ghetti Dinner and Rummage Sale,” sponsored by the Animals Need Help of Bear Lake will be April 25 at the Senior Center. Dinner is from 4 to 6 p.m. with “spay-ghetti,” salad, bread sticks, cookie and drink for $8 adults and $4 for children younger than 10. The rummage sale will be from 2 to 6 p.m. All donations benefit the spay/neuter program and provide medical care for shelter animals. The Marsh Valley High School all’-80s reunion will be June 12 from 5 to 10 p.m. through June 13 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Marsh Valley High School in Arimo.
    Classes of 1980 through 1989 are invited as well as anyone who attended or taught at Marsh Valley High in the ‘80s or who wants to connect with ‘80s graduates.
    This is a family friendly event and there will be activities for children both days.

Friends of the Blackfoot Library sale will be April 25 at the library, 157 N. Broadway, Blackfoot from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A large number of newly donated books from the community, including Westerns and newer paperbacks will be sold. There will also be a silent auction with new selections ending at 3 p.m.
Aid for Friends needs entries for its Hot Chili Day Cookoff to be held April 25 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the College of Technology Culinary Arts cafeteria in the Roy F. Christensen Building at Idaho State University. Winner of the chili cookoff will receive a gift basket by Jodi Henley Baskets and also the Honorable Traveling Spoon Award. There will also be raffles and karaoke. Cost is $5 per person or $20 per family and the public is welcome.
The Pocatello branch of the NAACP will hold their annual “Little Bit of Soul” Dinner April 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bonneville Community Center, 427 N. Sixth Ave. Cost of the meal is $10 adults, children $8. Proceeds go toward the Homer Watkins Scholarship Fund of the NAACP.  Happy Hands Club from “Napoleon Dynamite” will perform April 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Marsh Valley Performing Arts Center at Marsh Valley High School in Arimo. The Greater Curlew Valley Area Sage Grouse Local Working Group will meet May 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bureau of Land Management/Forest Service building in Malad, 195 S. 300 E. Agenda items include changing boundaries of the area, generate ideas for sage grouse conservation projects, learn about funding sources and what programs would the group support. The J.R. Simplot Company will present the Inspirational Teacher Award April 27 to 19 educators in School District No. 25 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Highland High School, 1800 Bench Road, Pocatello. One of the teachers will receive a $500 award and the rest will receive $100 cash prizes. Each year hundreds of students, parents and fellow teachers nominate the teacher that has inspired them the most. The ceremony is open to the public.
