This popular 6 man a'capella group brings their unique vocal sounds and talents to the Allinger Community Theatre on June 12th and the Montpelier LDS Tabernacle on June 13th. Concerned Citizens of Pocatello will be at the Pocatello offices of Rep. Mike Simpson and Sens. Mike Crapo and James Risch to deliver homemade pies May 8 as part of the Peace Alliance’s fifth annual “Peace of the Pie” Day. Anyone who wants to take part can join Concerned Citizens at 9:45 a.m. in front of the Omni Building, 275 S. Fifth Ave., Pocatello. The group will present pies to the congressional staff and explain why HE 808 now before the U.S. House is an important step toward less violence in the world.
Heart to Heart Pets with a Purpose will host Dogs on Course in America agility trials May 8 and 9 at OK Ward Park on Quinn Road, Pocatello. There will be 100 runs each day. Judging starts at 8:30 a.m. The public is welcome and food will be available. Leave dogs at home unless they are entered. For more information, call 233-9078.
US Bank’s Relay for Life team will have a parking lot sale May 9 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Yellowstone office, 855 Yellowstone Ave., Pocatello. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Luminaries and raffle tickets will be available to buy.
Snake River School District bond meeting will be May 7 at Snake River High School, 922 W. Hwy. 39, near Blackfoot at 7 p.m. The bond election will be May 12. Much of the bond funds will go to upgrading mechanical and lighting systems in the district schools. More information on the bond is available at snakeriver.org.
Century High School, Pocatello, will present its final spring choir concert May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Century High auditorium. This is the 10th anniversary of the school and also a farewell to Becky Moore, Century Choirs director. The Diamondaires will perform as well as Vocal Point, Male Order and Century Singers. The concert finale will be a gospel song, “Praise His Holy Name,” in which all the choirs join together with Century Choir alumni. The concert is free and the public is invited.
May 9 and 16 are days scheduled to plant gardens at the American Falls Library, 308 Roosevelt St. Work begins at 9 a.m. both days. Plans call for a perennial flower garden, outdoor amphitheater and a children’s garden area. Volunteers are need for soil preparation and planting. Donations of perennial flowers and ground covers are needed, and birdhouses and other fun garden items are needed for the children’s garden. Plants may be left on the patio of the library. Hillcrest Haven Convalescent Center will sponsor a “senior” prom featuring ‘50s music, dancing, fun, games, gowns and refreshments May 9 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the convalescent center, 1071 Renee Ave., Pocatello. Bring a pal or come alone. All are welcome. Dress as you are or come in tux and gown. There is no charge and the prom is for seniors of all ages.
Pocatello Real Estate Investment Club meets May 6 at 6:30 p.m. at 1966 Beth. The topic this month will be working with contractors — finding them, contracts, permits and licenses. Portneuf Valley Quilter’s Guild will meet May 6 at Central Christian Church, 918 E. Center St., Pocatello, at 7 p.m. Karlene Hunt will demonstrate printing photos on fabrics for memory quilts and Jill Barber will continue the discussion on color analysis. Recession yard sale and food bank drive for all residents of Satterfild Drive and adjoining streets in Pocatello will be May 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Come up and participate in this neighborhood event. Please provide your own box and ask for donations from your yard sale customers and bring a can or two of food for the food bank. Election of school board trustees in Zones 1 and 2, District 25, Pocatello and Chubbuck will be May 19 from noon to 8 p.m. Absentee voting will be May 6 through 14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and May 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Education Service Center, 3115 Pole Line Road. Zone 1 polling places on May 19 will be at Chubbuck, Ellis and Tyhee Elementary Schools, and Zone 2 polling places will be at Indian Hills and Jefferson Elementary Schools and Irving Middle School. Voters must vote at a polling place within the zone in which they reside.
The AVCenter at the Pocatello Airport will host a free pilot seminar May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pocatello AVCenter facility. It is open to all area pilots. There will be a review of current changes in federal regulations about aviation. The seminar is designed for area pilots or flight students who wish to meet fellow pilots and for those attending it counts toward the ground portion of a biennial flight review. The Parkinson’s support group will meet May 6 at 10 a.m. at the Marshall Public Library, 113 S. Garfield Ave., Pocatello. The program will be members and spouses telling their life experiences. The group will make preparations for a dinner to be held toward the end of May. New members and old members who were gone for the winter are welcome to attend. There will be a District 25 school board trustee candidates’ forum May 6 for Zones 1 and 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. This will be a live televised program on Pocatello Vision 11 Public Access Television. The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Pocatello; Margaret Ganyo will be the moderator.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 735 will offered reduced-fee dog licenses throughout May at Smith’s Food King from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. Chubbuck City Hall, 5160 Yellowstone Ave., will issue tags Monday through Friday during May.
The costs are $3 for spayed dogs and $6 for animals that are not spayed. No sales will be made Sundays or holidays.
Christ's Love Vineyard will host speakers Kari Browning and Shawn Bolz for the Supernatural Signs of 2009 conference May 8, 9 and 10 for a conference. Christ’s Love Vineyard is located on the north side of the Westwood Mall. There will be no registration fee but love offerings will be taken for the speakers. Times are May 8 at 7 p.m., May 9 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and May 10 at 10:30 p.m. No child care is available at this conference.

Motorcycle Awareness Day and POW*MIA will travel to Idaho Falls May 2 to take part in a parade in town. Meet at Pocatello City Hall, 911 N. Seventh Ave., at 9 a.m., and be ready to leave at 10 a.m. The trip ends with a CMA biker blessing and parade ride to Freeman Park in Idaho Falls at 1 p.m.
Concerned losing her hair after chemotherapy might scare her kindergarten students, Syringa Elementary School teacher Mary Spiker developed a project, “Head Huggers,” where each child designs a bag, hat and journal after their favorite children’s book. Because of the project on May 4 Portneuf Cancer Center social worker Robb Dye will address her class at 8:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. The center also will donate to the children’s cancer donation at Syringa’s library.
Concerned Citizens, a nonpartisan social action group dedicated to defending the Constitution, will have its First Monday meeting May 4 at noon at Main Street Coffee and News, 234 N. The annual rabies clinic in Pocatello will be May 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Bannock County Fairgrounds off Olympus Drive, Building B. Shots are $12, senior citizens age 65 and older can get one free vaccination with proof of age. Microchips are available for $12, provided by the Pocatello Animal Shelter and Bannock Humane Society will be selling half-price dog licenses. The clinic is sponsored by the Eastern Idaho Veterinarian Medical Association and Bannock Humane Society.
President Obama said Wednesday that he's under no illusions that he'll have a "rubber-stamp Senate" now that Sen. Arlen Specter has switched parties to join the Democrats. ![]() President Obama speaks on the 100th day of his administration. "To my Republican friends, I want them to realize that me reaching out to them has been genuine," Obama said at a prime time news conference capping his 100th day in office. "I can't sort of define bipartisanship as simply being willing to accept certain theories of theirs that we tried for eight years and didn't work and the American people voted to change." Specter on Tuesday announced he was changing parties, saying he's found himself increasingly "at odds with the Republican philosophy." He also admitted Wednesday he was worried about the prospects of facing a Republican primary in order to keep his seat next year. Specter's move puts the Democrats one shy of a filibuster-proof Senate majority of 60 seats. Senate Democrats can reach the 60-seat mark if courts uphold Al Franken'...
