How to post to the Photo Contest

1. Log in to your Jhub account.

2. Click on “post something” on the right hand side.

3. Click on “article.”

4. For the title, make sure you indicate that it is a photo contest entry. For the category choose “photos,” and for the sub category choose “contest entries.”

5. If you would like, write a brief description of your photo in the body, but this is not required.

6. To post the photo, click on the “Browse” button underneath the body of the post. A folder will open that will allow you to go find your photo, on your computer. Depending on the size of the photo, it may take a few minutes to upload. 7. Once the photo is uploaded, click on “post article.”

Each morning when I come in I check all the recent posts and find all of the photo contest entries and feature them so they show up on the home page. If you are concerned that I missed your photo or if you are having problems uploading, feel free to e-mail me at jwixom@journalnet.com or call me at 239-3176.

PHOTO JUDGING CRITERIA
Photos are judged primarily on two things, photo content and overall photo quality.

Each month has a theme. One of the first things we look for in a photo is how well it fits the monthly theme. The monthly themes are picked based on what is happening that time of year since that is what most people will be photographing anyway. They are meant to be fun and broad enough that everyone can participate.

We also, of course, look at the overall quality of the photo. We do recognize that there are photos of every skill level posted on the site and take that into consideration when picking finalists. Our professional Journal photographers weigh in on the way the photos are cropped, the lighting, etc.

Based on these two things several finalists are chosen. We then look at each one of the finalists very carefully, again considering the above criteria before making a final choice.

Got questions? I am in the office Monday through Friday, so send me an e-mail and I will get back to you. My e-mail address is jwixom@journalnet.com
