I wrote Senator Crapo about H. R. 4173. Read his response and support him in fighting this amendment that will impose a fee on all of us that own a debit card or have a checking account.
"As you may know, Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) offered Senate Amendment 3989 to the financial regulatory reform legislation, H.R. 4173.Senator Durbin's amendment would direct the Federal Reserve to regulate the debit and interchange fees that credit card issuers may charge for a transaction. This amendment required a 60 vote threshold, which it achieved, passing by a vote of 64 to 33. Under the amendment, the Federal Reserve would be directed to set a rate related to the cost of the transaction. However, the amendment does not allow the regulator to consider other costs, such as the risk of fraud losses, or the risk that consumers will not pay their bills, when regulating the fee. This language must be modified so that that the rule will allow all the relevant costs to be considered and not to be artificially predetermined. Additionally, although the amendment exempts institutions with less than $10 billion in assets, these institutions contend they will be forced to match the rate set by the Federal Reserve, which will force them to lose the revenue necessary to offer such products as free checking and debit. Small banks and credit unions have over a three times higher cost per transaction than larger banks due to their lower size and scale. Because the overwhelming majority of small banks and credit unions are sponsored participants of large banks, they contend that they cannot benefit from the exemption language. This is clearly not the intent of the amendment and this provision needs to be changed so that credit unions and community banks can continue to compete in this market. As a member of the conference committee, tasked with working out the differences between the House and Senate versions of this bill, I intend to push to make changes to the language to ensure that community banks and credit unions that offer a debit card service are not priced out of the market. Again, thank you for contacting me.Please feel free to contact me in the future on this or other matters of interest to you.For more information about the issues before the U.S. Senate as well as news releases, photos, and other items of interest, please visit my Senate website, http://crapo.senate.gov.

MORGAN HILL, Calif. — The parents of several San Francisco Bay-area high school students who were sent home after showing up in clothing with American flags on Cinco de Mayo are blasting the school's decision.
An assistant principal at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill told the group of boys Wednesday to take off bandanas and shirts bearing American flags or turn the shirts inside out, according to some of the boys. At least one of the boys was also wearing shorts with the U.S. flag.
"They said we could wear it on any other day," Daniel Galli, one of the boys, told San Jose's KNTV. "But today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday, so we were not allowed to wear it today."
The boys say they were told the clothing was offending some Hispanic students and could spark fights.
They were given the choice to leave or face suspension, they said.
E-mails and phone messages left Thursday for school and district officials were not returned. But in a statement, the district called the incident "extremely unfortunate" and said it was investigating.
"While campus safety is our primary concern and administrators made decisions yesterday in an attempt to ensure campus safety, students should not and will not be disciplined for wearing patriotic clothing," the statement read.
The boys said they had no intention of sparking conflict. At least two of them said they are part Hispanic.
Julie Fagerstrom, mother of one of the boys, said they were just being patriotic and displaying their individuality.
The boys have since met with a district official and been allowed to return to school and continue wearing the clothing.
But some students at the school objected.
"I think they should apologize 'cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day," Annicia Nunez told KNTV. "We don't deserve to get disrespected like that. We wouldn't do that on Fourth of July."

Tomorrow the destiny of this country will be determined by the Will of the people or politicians who support progressive (socialistic) ideologies from Obama. The people has spoken loudly "We don't want a health care system controlled by the government." Obama, Polosi, and the democrats have refused to listen the people who elected them. First Obama took over some car companies and the banks. Then he took over the the student loans. He has spent more money than any other president in the past. He has favored the unions with financial support and contracts. In return the unions are supporting his socialistic ideas. We need to have a better health care system but not mandated or forced on the American people. The constitution was enacted to protect our freedom of choice with regard to how we choose to live. Under Obama's plan, everyone will be forced to be insured or will have to pay a fine. There are people that don't want to be insured because they rather save their money and buy only a plan that covers their needs. Although there are some that are uninsured they can qualify for state and federal programs. When I came to this country I had no health insurance. I always payed for my medical care. I never expected the state to do it for me. I worked and I went to school to better myself. I believe in self reliance and accountability for my actions. This country has no more money to spend in a health care system that will not work. The national debt is so big that our children and grandchildren will have to pay for Obama's socialistic dream to change America. I hope and pray that the Lord will have mercy on us and will not allow this country to fall into pieces.

For too long Mayor Chase and friends have been in power and doing very little for Pocatello. When we compare Pocatello to other cities we can see that very little progress have been done for the past eight years. Not many people vote in Pocatello. We need to change this attitude and become more informed about the issues and candidates. It is time to get a new Mayor and new councilmen that cares about our community.

I don't want my child to watch Obama's speech because he wants to portrait himself as a president that cares about the children. Actions speak louder than words. He is a hypocrite. Recently the Obama administration has decided to put an end to the very successful DC school voucher program. This program gave scholarships to black children from an average of 20,000 dollars income the opportunity to attend prestigious private schools like the ones Obama's children attend. There have been many protests in Washington DC. but the liberal media has ignored to inform the public about them. Obama doesn't care about the children or the American people. I have read his speech that will be delivered tomorrow in almost all the schools in the country. I would allowed my child to view it if he was really sincere and honest. But I know he isn't.

I was told that so far there are not candidates to run against Mayor Chase. If this is true Pocatello will continue to go down. Can anyone tell me if there are other candidates? Please give me some hope for a better future in Pocatello. I love this town and the people. We deserve better.

I would like the JHUB initiate a discussion about how the people are reacting about Obama's health care reform plan. We are living at a critical time in our country. Decisions are being made by the President and Congress that will affect in which direction this country is going to go. Personally I am not looking forward to live in a nation that will be controlled by the government instead of the people's will. Tonight I watched the President's press conference to learn more about his health care reform. I don't think he really knows what he is talking about. I wouldn't be surprise that he has not read the 1,400 pages of the bill. He tried to cover the real intent of this bill. I hope the people understood what he meant when he talked about not allowing the doctors to perform treatments or surgeries that are unnecessary. The government will dictate how you will be treated. Personally I want to be in charge of making my own choices. I rather work my treatment with my doctor than the government. He said that we will be able to keep our own health insurance but it isn't true. By dictating and imposing too many regulations on what private health insurances can do or can not do will run them out of business. Eventually the government will monopolize the health insurance sector. He talked about how his bail outs and other things are helping the economy to recover. The housing crisis and unemployment are getting worse. He talked about helping small businesses and the middle class, how is he doing that? His stimulus package didn't do anything to stimulate the economy. This country's debt has triple since Bush left. Each day we loose small businesses here and in other states. If this bill pass more small businesses will close because they will not be able to provide health care for their employees. If the president really care about the people he should stay away from controlling the private sector. The government should only monitor that quality medical care and affordability is provided by the private sector. He should reform social programs that are already in place. So some of this money can go to provide health care for those who really need it. I know too many people that rather spend their money in other things than paying for their own health insurance. There are also those who use the medical services irresponsibly because they know that they don't have to pay for it. How can we trust Obama with our Health Care system? So far he has proved that he is incapable of delivering what he promised in his campaign? I didn't expect him to get us out of the recession in his first year. His performance to handle the economy give me little confidence in his ability to lead this country for good. Let us get more educated about the issues and act accordingly.

The U.S. House of Representatives easily approved “hate” crimes protections for homosexuals and transgendered individuals April 29. The Senate is expected to take up the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act prior to leaving for their August recess. The House bill would add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the current categories–such as race, religion and national origin–protected from hate crimes. “Sexual orientation” includes homosexuality, while “gender identity,” or transgendered status, takes in transsexuals and cross-dressers. It irritates me to see that the media is not informing the public about what Obama, democrats, and some republicans are approving in the House of Representatives and the Senate that will affect our country. The media is keeping the public uninformed about issues that concern to all of us. We do not need special amendment to protect homosexuals from hate crimes. Anybody who chooses to injure, kill or violate any human being regardless of sex orientation, race, etc. must be punished. We already have laws in place that were enacted for this purpose. If this amendment is approved people and religious leaders will not be able to speak against homosexuality. They will be prosecuted and put in jail. This is an attack on our rights to freedom of speech. Obama preaches about tolerance towards people who think, live, and choose their sex orientation but he doesn’t mean it. He wants to impose his values and values of his friends on all of us. This is what a pastor has to say: “People should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law when they commit crimes against persons or property. Yet it is a dangerous mistake to try to elevate some crimes of violence as being more heinous than other crimes of violence because of the purported motives of the perpetrator or the identity of the victim. Murder is murder and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of the possible motives of the murderer or the racial, ethnic or sexual identity of the victim.” (Richard Land, Christian Post Guest Columnist, Jul. 09 2009) If you support homosexuality I respect your opinion. My argument is not about denying protection to homosexuals, it is about our liberty to speak our mind even when we disagree.
