An old team but new name in the tournament paintball community is Violent Child a local 5 man team.  Last season they were known as UnderGroundKillaz (U.G.K.), but weren’t very competitive in the paintball leagues they entered.  This year was different, a new name and half of the team was new for this coming season.  U.G.K lost three of its original member and decided to pick up some new local talent picking up four new guys.  The original members of the team are Bob Austin (Captain), Paul Krumwiede, and Trever Zohner aka Gambit; while the new members are Kyle Williams aka Sailor, Clinton Linker, Morgan Baker, and Colton Montgomery. During the off season the team prepared for its upcoming season at The P.A.S.S. which they no longer practice at.  This got the team suited up and ready for the first tournament of the Utah Xtreme Paintball League (UXPL) at The P.A.S.S. in Pocatello, ID, which took place April 16, 2007.

With 24 teams and two different divisions (Division 5 being the largest with 16 teams, Division 4 with 8 teams), 6 teams from Idaho, and having over 500 people in attendance this was the largest paintball event to come to Pocatello.  To describe the conditions it was cold, dusty, and windy throughout the morning, but in the end it just remained extremely dusty.  I was coughing up dirt for a week.  The competition was tough but in Division 5 the four teams to make it to the semi-finals would be Desert Edge, Turd Burglars, Violent Child, and Basic.  Violent child battled against Turd Burglars in the best 2 out of 3 winning the third match with one more player left on the field after the 5 minute time limit came to an end, placing Violent Child into the finals against Desert Edge.  It was a tough two games but Violent Child came out on top taking first place in their hometown.

After winning in their hometown of Pocatello it was time to continue the rest of the series in Farmington, Utah at the Davis County Fairgrounds.  The second tournament being held on May 19, 2007 demonstrated to tough Division 5 competition.  Violent Child went 4 and 7 in the preliminaries falling one game short of entering the playoffs and taking a meager seventh place proved to the team that they can’t back down thinking since they won the first tournament they would win the rest.  This dropped Violent Child from first to fourth place in season standings.  Even though they took seventh another Idaho team Bad Medicine from Twin Fall and good friends of Violent Child took first place.  After taking seventh in this tournament Violent Child lost one of its key players Colton Montgomery originally from Addicts Factory in Salt Lake City.  This would be a big loss for the team especially going into the following tournament on June 19, 2007.

June 19, 2007 at the Davis County Fairgrounds was extremely hot.  Lots of fluids helped in this tournament, but only in surviving from the heat and not the teams Violent Child was about to face.  Three of the top four teams won at most two games.  Violent Child won only one game against Bad Medicine in their final game of the preliminaries.  With the loss of Colton the team was struggling to get through the day.  Because first and second place didn’t do so hot either this helped keep Violent Child in a close contention for first place in the overall standings.

The next tournament on July 21, 2007 at Davis County Fairgrounds was hotter than the first with temperature readings over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  This was one of my longest tournament days ever. The team entered the tournament with only five of its six players due to the fact that players still have an outside life. Violent Child started off winning their first game but really losing because the time ran out and Violent Child didn’t receive max points only having one more player left on the field giving the team 6 points out of 100.  Points are based on people alive on your team, dead on the other team, flag pull, and flag hang.  The team only lost one game in preliminaries against Turd Burglars placing them in second place in the semi-finals.  Violent Childs first opposition was against Random winning the series in two games with one person left at the end of each game.  Both wins consisted of a one on two, which is where Violent Child had one player while Random had two left on the field.  By winning Random this allowed Violent Child to enter into the finals against Desert Edge.  Violent Child has won Desert Edge three out of the five games they’ve played adding two more wins against Desert Edge in the finals.  This would help push Violent Child up to third place in the Season Standings with Basic in first, Desert Edge second, Violent Child third, and Bad Medicine fourth going into the final tournament.

September 15, 2007; aka UXPL Championship at Davis County Fairgrounds was a cooler day than the rest of the tournaments with 14 Division 5 teams helped make the day shorter, allowing for only 5 preliminary games.  This was a day for a lot of gun malfunctions for Violent Child but they somehow pulled off winning 4 out of the 5 losing their first game to DV8.  Trever Zohner aka Gambit gun went to trash during the third game when it started to leak large amount of air and also burning his hand as he ran up the field shooting two players and coming within 5 feet from the opposition’s flag before he got shot in the ear.  Violent Child entered again into the semi-finals with an excited attitude but that was soon about to change after losing two straight games to Turd Burglar and playing for third place against basic in the finals losing the first game, winning the second, and losing the third ending up in fourth place for the tournament.  Desert Edge finally won their first tournament of the season.  This bumped Desert Edge into first place, knocking Basic to second, Violent Child remained at third, and Turd Burglars jumped into fourth place knocking Bad Medicine to fifth.  The top four teams will enter into Division 4 next year in the UXPL.

Besides playing in the UXPL, Violent Child entered into one of the three Mountain Home Air Force Base Excel Series tournaments.  Bob Austin played for Bad Medicine during the first tournament while Trever Zohner went and got shot taking pictures.  This I would have to say is the nicest paintball field in the country with groomed grass and an excellent staff.  Violent Child entered into the second tournament on August 11, 2007 only losing to two teams all day.  Once to Bad Medicine Black (Team 2) and 3 times, twice in the playoffs to Deadly Aim Black (team 1).  By losing to Deadly Aim, Violent Child placed third for the event with Crusade Red in first, Deadly Aim Black in second, and Violent Child in third.

This was a great season for team Violent Child.  Many sacrifices were made to compete not only by members but the families of the team members.  With three members under 18 the family support was needed.  If you want to play against anyone from Violent Child you can find them at Pirate Paintball in Tyhee on Saturdays and some players will be seen at The P.A.S.S. throughout the week.  They also play in the woods whenever they get the chance.  For more information about team Violent Child or how to start up a paintball team contact:

This weekend was the championship tournament for the uxpl and it rocked.  We lost our first game of the preliminaries to DV8 a new team who entered as Division 6 but should've been classified in our Division because they would've entered the semis going into 4th place.  These guys rocked.  We won the rest of our preliminary games undefeated even with my reg leaking massive air in the 3rd game against The Ugly Stick causing me to run up the tape shooting 2 people and almost got the flag, the back right dude shot me in the ear a foot from the flag.  I was out of air by then so i couldn't shoot at anyone.  I was bouncing them off one of their teammates.

So we enter semis against Turd Burglars.  These guys rock and they destroyed us.  Sailor got a 1 for 1 at the beginning and i look back seeing my whole team is dead.  yay my favorite.  that was my second time that day.  They won us in two games.  crap!  so we enter the finals fighting for 3rd and 4th against Basic.  They asked us to forfeit because they wanted 1st overall but still couldn't do it they would've lost by 2 points.  we played them.  lost the first game, won the second game cause we had more bodies cause time ran out, then i really didn't care by the 3rd one and I tried to move quickly up the field but it's hard when a couple guys are laning me.  so we got smoked.   so we took 4th at the tourney and 3rd for overall season standings and got some sweet Eclipse Gear Bags.  Excellent end to the season.

Event 5 (Division 5)
Desert edge 1st (finally got their first win)
Turd Burglars 2nd
Basic 3rd (1 first place)
Violent Child 4th (2 first place)

Overall season

Desert edge 1st
Basic 2nd
Violent Child 3rd
Turd Burglars 4th

our standings for the season

1st, 7th, 13th (ugh), 1st, 4th

Mountain Home tourney

3rd and we're there just to screw up points
