Last night my oldest grandson reminded me that he is old enough to hunt with us this year and plans to join us at deer camp. "What about school", I asked him? "No problem. I'll come up on the weekends", he replied. You might think that I would look forward to taking him hunting with us,and I really do except for one thing. This is the kid that can't go anywhere without sounding like he is the lead drummer for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum Baily Circus parade. I think he gets it from his grandmother. The last time I took her to deer camp, she walked up a hill and actually found some deer. She then proceeded to scream, "They are all up here". When I got to where she was, they weren't "all up here" anymore. I guess I really don't mind him coming to deer camp with us. Most of my friends and family that will be there really like to see young people getting involved in hunting. Deer camp is usually supposed to be an almost reverently quite place. This year might be a little interesting.
Every year my wife and I try to spend 3-4 days enjoying Yellowstone park. For several years we invited our daughters and their families to go with us. One year we actually had the campground host threaten to fine us because of the noise in our campsite area after 8:00 pm. It didn't help that the grand kids were chasing squirrels, fell into other campsite fire pits and everyone in the campsites around us including me, were hit in the head at least once by Frisbees that the kids and their parents were throwing. It got to the point where we didn't go anywhere in the Madison camp ground with out keeping an eye peeled for incoming. This year we decided to go by ourselves and not mention to the kids that we were going to spend the Labor Day weekend in the park. At least that is what I remember deciding. A couple of days ago the two older sons of one daughter informed me that they were going with us to the park. "How did you know we were going", I asked? "Grandma told us and invited everyone", they replied. When I asked my wife what was going on, she said that she couldn't stand to go to the park without inviting everyone who wanted to go and that the oldest son of the other daughter was going also. That means that my expedition quality 4-person geodesic dome tent will be sleeping at least four people, maybe five. Anyone who is familiar with 4-man tents knows they only sleep three people and any more have to sleep in the vestibule area. If anyone has to get up in the night for a potty break, they will trip and fall over everyone else and maybe worse before they get out of the tent and head for the lavatory. I'm sure We will enjoy the park immensely this fall, but I'm also going to watch for incoming
It looks like There are some folks that have decided that Senator Larry Craig should resign because of a conviction of disorderly conduct in a Minnesota airport men's room. We seem too willing to rush to judgment based on what we read in the paper. Senator Craig issued a statement saying that at the time of the incident, he complained to the police that they were misinterpreting his statements and that in hindsight he should have retained an attorney. That was also printed in the newspaper, but some people don't want to hear that, they just feel he ought to resign. So, if he was innocent, of any wrong doing, why did he plead guilty to the charge? That is a good question, and I hope he will address that question as soon as possible. In the mean time I would like to know more about the incident than I currently know. Senator Craig has done some good things for Idaho during his time in office and we owe it to ourselves to make sure we have all the facts before we ask him to resign. He should start talking to us soon though.
The Idaho Anti-wolf Coalition wants to put an initiative on the Nov. 2008 ballot that would force the state to discontinue all Canadian wolf recovery efforts. If that happens, Canadian wolf management would simply revert back to the stricter federal government regulations. Personally, I would rather the state be in charge of wolf recovery efforts rather than having the federal government telling us what is best for Idaho. Maybe the question we ought to be asking coalition spokesman, Tony Mayer, is why the coalition favors federal control over state control.
