POCATELLO

During his career, McIsaac did studio work in Atlanta, Phoenix, and Tucson, including a session with Lobo, who had a hit in the 1970's with 'Me And You And A Dog Named Boo'.

He and a friend formed a string section that performed violins and cello during recording sessions, but it ended up being a one-man show. "They were cheap and thought if they speeded up the tape they could make my violin sound like a cello, too.", he said.

McIsaac admits he was somewhat of a violin snob. "People used to request the 'Orange Blossom Special' and I just refused to play that.", he said. Then, as a joke, he and a friend put together a jazzed up cover of the country standard. "We got a standing ovation, and I ended up playing country music for 20 years.", he said.

But life on the road got old and McIsaac eventually returned to Southeast Idaho.

"I'd be on the road and then I'd get a house job, it was living on busses and in hotels.", he said. "I don't mind playing with people, I just don't want to live with them."

He can play several instruments, but McIsaac focuses on the violin and piano.

After working on the road and playing with a number of local bands, he took a bus driving job with the Pocatello School District. That was 10 years ago. "It started out I played full time and the school was part time, but as the bar scene kind of died out, the school district became full time and I played part time.", he said.

Until he started writing music and experimenting with the recording equipment he accumulated during his extensive career. One of the first songs he wrote, 'Angel', was also the inspiration for his CD jacket. He wrote the song for his wife of five years, Mary Jo. His twin 5-year-old nieces, Ella and Olivia, posed for the cover.

The CD, 'On The Wings Of Love', is getting noticed on the Internet. McIsaac just learned that his song, 'Hey, Diddle-Diddle' was a No. 4 Cashbox Magazine Indie Pick. Indie Picks are selected by a panel of music industry experts with more than 300 years of combined experience between them, according to the letter notifying McIsaac that his song had been chosen.

"If you make these Top 10 charts, consider yourself in an elite bunch because it is a special chart that majors pay attention to.", wrote Bruce Elrod, president of Cashbox Magazine.

McIsaac is currently working on a new CD and said he's in the composing phase with three songs on the new list.

He has two daughters and four grandchildren. And while his new musical endeavor is a 14-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week project, when he does have time off, he enjoys spending it with his family.

McIsaac said music always has been, and most likely will be, a part of his life. "When I was a kid I knew I either wanted to be a doctor, or I wanted to play the violin.", he said.

"I remember my mother used to sneak me into the Stardust to play with the Fisher Family," he said, "I used to sit in with a lot of different bands."
McIsaac grew up in Idaho Falls, he learned to play the piano when he was just five and the violin a year later. by the time he was 17, he was sitting in with bands at local clubs and hotels.
- Dave McIsaac turned his pastime into a successful musical career and the Internet is helping him to revive and expand his art.
