I was sold on this team after last year's Fiesta Bowl miracle. That was the best football game I have ever seen. I'll never forget the two trick plays, especially the statue of liberty that won the game. Those plays rarely ever work -- Boise State slew Goliath with amazing execution. So I am now both a Bronco and a Bengal fan. Weber State, BSU's opponent last night, is on our ISU schedule. So their performances may shed some light on what we will face (or not face). The Bengals play Weber in Ogden on November 3.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Yes, Boise State ran a trick play.

Coming off an undefeated season, the No. 24 Broncos ran their winning streak to 14 games — the longest in major college football — and even dipped into the bag of tricks that helped them upset Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl last season, beating Weber State 56-7 on Thursday in the season opener for both teams.

Ian Johnson ran for 129 yards and three touchdowns and Taylor Tharp was steady in his first start at quarterback, leading Boise State to touchdowns on its first seven possessions and a 49-0 lead at halftime.

But the first touchdown had everybody remembering that night in January.

Wide receiver Vinny Perretta, who threw for a score in the Fiesta Bowl, lined up at quarterback on third-and-goal from the 7 and ran up the middle for a touchdown.

"I was surprised how well they executed on both sides of the ball," said second-year Boise State coach Chris Petersen. "With as many new guys as there were getting into the mix, I was surprised how well they came out."

I FEEL WIFE'S PAIN

DINA MCGREEVEY TO MRS. CRAIG: 'FACE TRUTH'

By GEOFF EARLE

Post Correspondent

August 31, 2007 -- WASHINGTON - The wife of "gay American" Jim McGreevey said yesterday she knows exactly what Larry Craig's wife is going through after the Republican senator got busted for soliciting sex in a men's room.

Dina Matos McGreevey, who split with her husband after he went public with his homosexuality, said she sympathized with Suzanne Craig's painful and humiliating situation - and offered some advice: "Face the truth, whatever that may be."

"I looked at her face and I thought, 'Oh, my gosh, that was me just three years ago.' I could see the pain in her eyes and I know what she's feeling and empathize with her," Dina told "Inside Edition" last night.

Local dog fights busted
MALAD - Oneida County Sheriff's deputies uncovered an apparent large-scale dog fighting operation Tuesday while searching a home on a drug warrant, Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen said.

The Onieda County deputies reportedly discovered 26 adult pit bulls and four puppies, along with blood evidence that indicated illegal dog fighting was taking place at the residence.
Hours after the illegal operation was discovered in a home suspected of possessing marijuana, law enforcement officials removed the animals from the crime scene.

Nielsen said he contacted Onieda County Sheriff Jeff Semrad, who's currently away on vacation.
Oneida County officials did not provide details about the dog fighting ring and have scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. today.

Pocatello Animal Control Director Mary Remer said Onieda County officials requested assistance with the dogs Tuesday because the county currently has no animal shelter. Officials planned to transport the animals Wednesday to the Pocatello Animal Shelter.
Onieda County notified her Wednesday morning, however, that the animals had been inexplicably taken sometime Tuesday night.

From NBC's Mark Murray
A quick scan of some of the more prominent conservative blogs shows that these bloggers aren't defending Idaho Sen. Larry Craig (R), after Roll Call reported yesterday that Craig was arrested in June for lewd behavior in a men's bathroom. In fact, there are plenty of calls for his resignation.

Hugh Hewitt: "I realize that I did not say this about Senator Vitter, but Craig's behavior is so reckless and repulsive that an immediate exit is required."

Erick Erickson at Red State: "I can only say he must resign. Then I must say I told you so. If we do not clean our own house, the voters will do it for us."

National Review Online's Jonah Goldberg: "I don't know what Larry Craig's been doing in men's rooms. And it sure sounds like I don't wanna know either. But, whatever the facts turn out to be, I just love his office's initial statement (calling it a 'he said/he said misunderstanding')."

Patrick Ruffini: "All that seems clear right now is that Senator Larry Craig will not be invited back for another six years in Washington, be that through resignation ..., retirement, or defeat at the ballot box next November (or in the primary).

*****

Hewitt goes on to say:

" ... I don't believe him. Read the statement by the arresting officer. He must think the people of Idaho are idiots.

But even if I did believe him, this would make his judgment too flawed to be in the United States Senate in a time of war. He has to go. ...".

*****

Goldberg adds:

" ... Call me crazy, but I would have thought that it's press flacking 101 not to further sexualize a controversy in which you are denying that sex had anything to do with it. Other great denials might be:

"The alleged 'victim' wasn't his type."

"This is all a terrible misunderstanding. The Senator is a bus station man."

"He was with me in Provincetown at the time."

"He doesn't need to cruise bathrooms to find guys."

"Oh, no she didn't!" ...".

Joe Vandal said:

Another way to tell Larry is lying: his press release yesterday claims he was trying to handle this matter quickly on his own and without the advice of a lawyer.

Sounds like poor Larry got rushed into a bad decision, right? They must have put the spurs to him and taken him to court right after his arrest, ehhh?

Nope. He was arrested June 11, he went to court August 8. Larry had 24 days to think it over, consult with any of hundreds of attorneys he probably came in contact with during that time, and choose his best strategy.

He pled guilty because he knew the cop had witnessed enough suspicious behaviors to warrant arrest. Now that it’s public he wants to claim the officer “misconstrued” his actions.

More lies from Larry Craig.

Should a recall petition be started for his lies, for his getting arrested in such a low situation, for being on probation for a year?

Or is this acceptable for Idaho “leadership”?

"J.R. Miller, of Florida, was chosen Monday as the new Pocatello Police Chief. Miller was formerly serving as assistant special agent in charge for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in the Orlando region," the Idaho State Journal reports.

Former Chief Ed Guthrie has a great relationship with the Pocatello NAACP as well as many other civic groups. I hope that Mr. Miller will carry on the good tradition.

"Idaho senator pleads guilty to disorderly conduct after incident at Minnesota airport that echoes previous allegation of homosexual conduct," writes Dan Popkey in today's Idaho Statesman.

It is clear that there are several unanswered questions. As a point of information, I am not a "leftist." That label has occassionally been thrown at me when I've had the nerve to question certain Republicans.

Popkey continues:

"In an interview on May 14, Craig told the Idaho Statesman he'd never engaged in sex with a man or solicited sex with a man. The Craig interview was the culmination of a Statesman investigation that began after a blogger accused Craig of homosexual sex in October. Over five months, the Statesman examined rumors about Craig dating to his college days and his 1982 pre-emptive denial that he had sex with underage congressional pages."

And he goes on to say:

"The most serious finding by the Statesman was the report by a professional man with close ties to Republican officials. The 40-year-old man reported having oral sex with Craig at Washington's Union Station, probably in 2004. The Statesman also spoke with a man who said Craig made a sexual advance toward him at the University of Idaho in 1967 and a man who said Craig "cruised" him for sex in 1994 at the REI store in Boise. The Statesman also explored dozens of allegations that proved untrue, unclear or unverifiable."

and tell us what you think.

"And where in his home state -- or anywhere else -- can Craig appear in public without this story dominating the discussion? It consumes all the oxygen in the room," the Post Register said today in an editorial.

"It's with no small amount of regret that this page asks for Craig's resignation," writes Marty Trillhaase.  "He's been a dedicated public servant -- sometimes right, sometimes wrong. But this is no longer about Craig."

The article goes on:

"When Roll Call broke the story Monday, Craig issued the kind of self-serving statement you'd expect to hear from a local student body president trying to wiggle out of a shoplifting conviction than a respected 26-year veteran of Capitol Hill."

Trillhaase adds:

"Given his steadfast denials to allegations of homosexual activity made against him last year by a gay rights activist, you'd expect an innocent man to stand his ground and go to trial. Keeping quiet for two months and then issuing denials 19 days after pleading guilty to a crime is hardly persuasive.

"... Craig engaged in deception, and because of that, he can't be trusted."

Do you agree with the Post Register's idea that Senator Larry Craig needs to resign?

What are the most important aspects behind choosing a college? This list offers one perspective:
When it's time to take a break from the books, the students at these ten colleges definitely know how to cut loose and let the good times roll. According to The Princeton Review's survey of 120,000 college students for the Best 366 Colleges: 2008 Edition, raising the roof is par for the course at these top ten party schools.

"Like so many of Michael Vick's third-down conversion attempts, his legal defense against dogfighting charges ended Monday with a punt.," says Kevin Hench of FOXSports.com.

"By the time all his so-called friends were done flipping, it was 4th-and-38. Even the elusive Vick had to realize there was no scrambling out of this one. (The prosecution doesn't view him as a flight risk because he has no friends left to drive the white Bronco.)"

The article continues: "The fact that Vick's friends flipped so readily has led some of his defenders to decry the lack of loyalty in the Vick posse. Hey, here's a heads up: if your friends enjoy watching dogs tear each other apart, they might not turn out to be the highest character guys when you need them to have your back."

"And those, like Donovan McNabb and Emmitt Smith, who were quick to condemn Vick's associates should bear in mind that Vick certainly seemed prepared to throw his entire posse under the bus to 'clear his good name.' But plea deals don't go from the top down. A drug kingpin can't get a lesser sentence by rolling on his street peddlers. Vick financed the operation. He was the big fish," Hench says.
