BFE 2007 was AWESOME!
Location:
Idaho Falls, ID
On Saturday I was not only fortunate enough to attend BFE 2007 (Big freakin' event), but I was also fortunate enough to get a media pass which allowed me to hang out backstage and get on stage with the bands while they were performing to take some pictures. The bands that performed were (in no particular order) Candlebox, Adema, CKY, Clutch, Living Colour, and Papa Roach. Seether was set to perform, however, a few days before they were suppose to play in Idaho Falls, the band's bass tech., who also happens to be the lead singer's brother, decided to take his own life by jumping from an 8th story hotel room window. Needless to say, the band cancelled. It has always been my dream to cover concerts and local music. The two biggest passions in my life are music and writing, so any way I can combine those two is great! Anyway, the show was fantastic. Despite a little bit of rain, the show went on and all the bands sounded fantastic and put all of their effort into the show. I got to actually hang out with Adema and Candlebox quite a bit, and I was very surprised at how humble and down to earth the guys were. Adema's bass player gave me a big bear hug and signed my BFE 2007 Frisbee for me, then we talked about how great it was to be seeing all these bands in one place. The singer was genuinely appreciative of all the fans that came out to see the band. When I talked to him he almost seemed shy, althouhg of all the bands they were the ones who interacted the most with the fans, both before and after their set. The Candlebox guys were equally as friendly. I stood next to them while Clutch was on stage. I got to tell them how I acquired their first album: when it came out about ten years ago or so, my dad bought it and I loved it so much that I permanetly long-term borrowed it from him! Ha ha! Ya, they thought that was pretty awesome. In fact, the bass player said that he used to do that with his dad's records too. It is so incredible to be able to talk to musicians about music, especially those that I have been fans of for literally years. And just to see them perform . . . Living Colour was amazing live. Wow, that guy can shred the guitar! And seeing it from that viewpoint too, being on stage looking out across the sea of people. I have never experienced that before. It was truly an amazing and unforgetable experiance. I have posted my favorite photo that I took that day, it is of the guitarist for CKY. I am working on figuring out how to post the rest of the photos on the "through the lens" section of J-Hub so they will be more easily accessible. Also, I am thinking about writing an article about how important it is to support these types of shows. It is both good for the local economy and gives kids something to do rather than spray painting the sides of buildings or the neighbor's cat or something. I will be posting it, so check it out!
