“ The Playboy of the Western World” Revived!
Bilyeu Theatre –Frazier Hall February 5th and 6th @ 7:30pm
Theatre/Dance ISU is reviving its production of The Playboy of the Western World. The Irish comedy was chosen as a showcase production at this year’s Rocky Mountain Theatre Association’s Festival (RMTA) in Helena, MT. Each year, the festival chooses among it entries for a performance to showcase for the participants at the festival.
In addition to the show’s success, there were three individual acting nominations awarded to Natalie Keezer, for her portrayal of Widow Quinn, Mychal Lowman as Christy Mahon and Dusty Heyrend as Old Mahon. In preparation for the festival, the entire cast and crew have revived the production in the Bilyeu Theatre of Frazier Hall and are hard at work rehearsing. In order to “take the show on the road,” Theatre/Dance ISU is in desperate need of travel funds for not only the cast and crew but also to transport the large scenery pieces and costumes to the festival.
Friday, February 5th and Saturday, February 6th at 7:30pm in the Bilyeu Theatre of Frazier Hall, you can catch a revived performance of the Irish classic. There will be an at the door “good will” donation charge to raise money to help cover the travel expenses of the show’s tour. To those who may have forgotten or who didn’t catch a performance, The Playboy of the Western World is an intriguing Irish comedy dealing with self and social perception. This story was written by the great Irish playwright John Millington Synge in 1907. Synge captures the richly unique idioms and cadences of the Irish tongue, and draws some of the most complex and compelling characters in Irish literature.
