Do you think coach Todd Praska should have been suspended?

REINSTATE PRASKA!
| Absolutely NOT based on what has been reported in the Journal. Todd Praska is a wonderful teacher and coach. Hes like a secret special power for Poky High wrestling. Shame on Cotant for bringing Poky athletics into the spotlight over some chairs when the Legislature is looking for ways to cut education to the bone. Lots of kids have gotten scholarships to college because of their wrestling abilities, skills learned from Praska. Wrestling only lasts a couple of months and Poky needs their coach. Reinstate Praska! | |

| I can't believe that Praska was suspended because of some chairs. Prasca was my son's TA at Poky. He was always willing to help my son and other students with their schedules and any other problems. He cares about his students. He always had time to meet with the parents to talk about their children's concerns. He needs to be with his wrestling team and continue his work. Why Does District 25 never listen to needs of its students? | |

| Where is the spineless Athletic Director in all this? Is he still hiding in a corner and letting Cotant be the bad guy? I only have respect for Praska and they better reinstate him soon. This is utter BS! I am so sick of the snobs on the Hill crying about Poky trying to get our coaches in trouble. You people disgust me! | |

Coach Praska

| If the facts of this case are all that the Journal have presented, then I would have to say that the administration totally overreacted to the situation. INDEFINITE SUSPENSION! Give me a break. Was anyone put in danger? Were any students abused or publicly humiliated? Did the coach abuse, defame or heaven forbid, directly refuse to follow the commands of the Principal? Were there previous instances of insubordination? Usually there are progressive steps in disciplinary procedures. I believe you get my point. Normally a letter of reprimand in ones file would suffice. It appears to that a thumbtack was driven with a 5 Lb. sledge. | |

Highland 3 Poky and Century 0
| So lets get this straight Highland does nothing wrong ever! First Layne Coffin When he was at Century had an issue with a Highland drill team instructor Highland wins Century loses the best football coach they have ever had! Tom Harrison Did or did not have something to do with the hit in the black and blue bowl! But the retaliation from the Highland kids was acceptable! Now Todd Praska proves a point with just chairs and he is suspended! Does any one else see a recurring theme here? | |

| It would seem with all of the real issues teachers, coaches and administration should be dealing with that the poor discomfort of HIGHLANDS coaches and the spineless approach of the poky administration let alone the HR from the district..Praska should be applauded for bringing to light the inequity of the highland wrestling conditions..should have had the match in the girls gym to match comfort with comfort. Unbelievable...not like coaches get paid anything compared to their effort. I wonder if they suspended him because he told them how stupid they really were? | |

| Coach Praska has not only worked with the Pocatelo youth, but also other area kids as well. He helped my three boys in freestyle.I don't know the whole story, but I hope to see some common sence come out of this. Politics seem to "RULE". Thankyou Coach Praska! Coach Suspension
Todd is a great coach just like the scores of coaches all over the city. The issue is not chairs, how much awesome influence a coach has had in the past, football hits in the black and blue bowl, or any other issue in the past. The action was taken because of insubordination of a coach when asked by his principal to NOT carry through with a "bush" retaliation scheme against a visiting school. That's not to say that each and everyone of us who has lived in Pocatello for the last 60 years has not seen "bush" schemes pulled of by EVERY school....some players, some teams, some cheer squads, some coaches, and some fans. The fact remains that Todd Praska deliberately followed through with the plan when Mr. Cotant asked him not to. There is probably much more leading up to this incident and perhaps others that warranted the action. Coaches and players have been suspended from every school in this area at one time or another. It's because there are rules, standards, and sportsmanship. It isn't meant as a condemnation....and perhaps a warning letter might have sufficed...however, there may have been previous acts of insubordination. Coach Praska I'm sure has suspended a wrestler when he has not complied with the team rules. |

From a taxpayer point of view, I think Todd should be reinstated. Think of the money he has saved us by not using up the "crying towels" every time things don't go his way. He teaches more than just wrestling to the kids. He is a "class act". Maybe Cotant should be suspended. This is the second time, lately, that he has made a poor decision. What will the third one be? |

| What next School Dist. 25--- a teacher suspended from coaching over a chair issue? As a former teacher at Pocatello High School, I know that Todd was well respected by students and has helped numerous teenagers achieve their goals. | |

| I don't know the whole story so it is hard to say if Coach was right or wrong. I do know the man and if the action he took was to make a well needed point, good for him! Coach Praska is one of the finest men I have ever met. He coached my sons in freestyle and in junior high. He is a great teacher who leads by example. Get Todd back on the mat where he belongs! | |

I think you are all missing the point. This turned into a personnel issue. I think a lot of Todd also and he is a great advocate of the kids and an awsome coach however put yourself in the shoes of the Principal who is ultimately in charge of the overall operation of his school (in other words he is the boss) would any of you be able to be insubordinate to your boss and not expect to be disciplined for it? I don't think so. Take the emotion out of this and ask yourself if Todd should have countermanded his supervisor’s direction and apparently he did, then shouldn’t the punishment fit the infraction? Also why is it Highlands fault or anyone elses fault? It is between the Principal and Todd. You all are turning this into a personal vendetta against those who are innocent. |

To bad Cotant has no back bone. As the head of poky he should stand behind his coaches and kids . this situation has been a long time coming and I admire Praska for standing up to the Highland B.S. WE also need to thank the Highland principal for having a back bone, and taking care of his schools part in this.As for the coaches involved I think the Highland coaches should have been supended as well for letting it come to this. sound like the only one with any back bone is Todd Praska. Thank you coach Praska for standing up for our kids and setting a good example. You highland coaches and principal Cotant need to learn from this (Do what's right no matter the price). |

Who holds the Adminstration accountable?
| This situation is yet another example of POOR leadership. Don Cotant is 70 years old. When the going gets tough Don folds. Everyone knows it and they look the other way. Don retire. Yes, you may have to go on a mission, but you chose the faith do your time. Allow someone else to lead Poky to a better path. You are outdated and put yourself before teachers and kids. Bow out gracefully or expect more of the same. Todd P. is right on this one and you blew it! | |

CHAIRS IMPORTANT?
| I am sure that Coach Praska was busy with his wrestlers at the time these chairs were needed. I would think if Mr. Contant showed the Highland wrestling team were they could get some chairs, they would have been grad to set them up. Shame on you, Mr. Contant. It was game time. If chairs didn't get set up, set them up your self or ask for help. Let the coach do his job, he is great at it. | |

| He should not have been suspended! This sounds just like the type of shenanigans they've tried to play with Coach Roomiany at Century. | I think that coach praska should be reinstated. This is has been blown way out of line. All of this for nothing. Todd praska is a one of a kind coach because he is not just a coach he is every kid on his teams best friend. There is nothing he wouldn't do for them. I traveled.from out of town to wrestle with praska and he got me to where. I needed to be. Reinstate him and let him get back to helping kids out. All this over bells ego and chairs is stupid. Reinstate him. | |

This whole thing is a load of crap. Look, we all get it now. It's just another: Highland complains and they get their way, Poky coach gets suspended, the AD hides in his corner, administrator proves a point, yadda yadda yadda... Let's move on and reinstate Praska now. She should never have been suspended in the first place and a week is too long. I think Parker needs to hits the road or grow a pair. |

Todd Praska
| Can I just start off with Wow! I met Coach Praska on my first day of school in 7th grade at Alameda Jr High, being nervous enough starting at a new school, he was so comforting and helpful to relieve any questions I had. His spunk and energy always traveled wherever he went, and the students loved it! His positivity and love for wrestling, well speaks for itself! Then he became my next door neighbor which was awesome! Almost 20 years of knowing this man and hearing this crazy talk about not putting up chairs for an opposing team is ridiculous, since when is it in his job description to do maintenance? He is busy enough getting his boys ready and pumped to become champs! If Cotant had a problem with no chairs being set up, and obviously could see Coach was a little busy and short on time, be a team player and do it yourself if it's that big of a deal! He has also made a huge impact on my brother in law, Zac Rice, and his wrestling career! He not only held many titles throughout his high school days, but went on to a full wrestling scholarship in Kearney Nebraska. He traveled back home every year to assist with the Team Idaho wrestling group alongside Coach Praska. Coach not only has been a great mentor, but leader in so many ways! Our family is thinking of you and your family and the many others it has affected!!!!! | |

| yes he should have been suspended. Sure he has done alot for the sport of wrestling but he also has that "wrestling god" attitude, at times he does not act with resppect of others. He needs to grow up and take his ego out of the sport. Its for the young men, to let this get out of hand like this is childish, both the AD and Todd need to not make this kind of specticle over such a little thing. I have been at an opponents school where they put out all the damaged chairs so u couldn't sit with any comfort. but we had the match anyway, there was nothing made of it. Bell, if he is guilty of not providing approiate hospitality needs to be reprimanded also-all involved needs to grow up | |

Coach Praska
| This is rIdiculous, Coach Praska has more intergrity & honor than 99% of all the coaches out there. My wife & I drove our kids over 2 hours a day 3 days a week to have our kids coached by him. The lessons he provides on and off the mat is unequaled anywhere. Every young man that has a privelge to be coached, taught or evin the priveledge to talk to Coach Praska is a better person. He helps all with talent or evin the kids that has no talent, he gives all the same opportunity. Now for Highland, if Poky has no seats to sit on & are expected to sit in the bleachers at Highland. Well guess what Highlands high & mighty a** can sit in the bleachers too. GET OVER IT. Now let the man do his job & coach and teach those kids. | |

Aren't there more important things to have on the front page?
| I am shocked and outraged that the school district administration finds this situation so important that it winds up on the front page of the newspaper when we have a huge budget cut from education to deal with and a disaster in Haiti. Really? Chairs? Why couldn't this have been handled in the office of the principal? Maybe there is reason for discipline but shouldn't the punishment fit the crime? If this was to make a point then the only point it made is the leadership of the school district doesn't know how to handle a disciplinary situation. It looks as if egos got in the way of any good decision making. I have not been able to see any good coming from this situation. Should that be the main outcome of the decisions that have to be made? | |

Wow

| In response to the outrageous suspension of a coach and a great coach at that reading this in the newspaper has been very upsetting to me and I am sure many others. As a former student and athlete of Todd Praska's I am suprised to see that this has gone as far as it has. As mentioned earlier by my sister in law Todd lead me to two individual state titles and a college wrestling career in which I was able to compete at nationals and win titles there as well.Without the influence of Todd as a coach I may not have got my college degree athletics is what drove me to finish college well that and money. Anyway Coach Praska never should have been suspended in the first place although what he did may have been unorthadox forgive me if thats spelled wrong it got the job done. Lets not forget all he did was put the opposing team in the same position they have continualy his team in time after time year after year. Which he has tryed since I attended school at Poky in 2001 to change. Not until his recent actions did anyone listen to his complaints or acknowledge the actions of Highland. I am sorry if it's not right for Todd to do nor is it right for anyone else. His actions although unorthidox got the job done shame on cottant any way as my degree is in sports administation and marketing and it is the responsibility of the athletic director to insure that the facility is set up properly and that the head coach is with his athletes when he is susposed to be. So I applaud Todd's actions reinstate Todd. | |

The issue is Cotant. Not because he is in his 70's but rather he cannot lead. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever if this would of been Harrison then Cotant would of been bending over backwards to have him re-instated. Just like he did when Harrison was suspended by the district for just cause. Cotant has his favorites who are allowed to do as they please while the rest get hammered for every little detail. Next, It is not the coaches job to have chairs out during meets and I am pretty sure no-where in the IHSSA hand book does it say that a chair on the mat will be provided by the home coach for the visiting coach. If bell wanted a chair he should of walked up to the A.D and asked where he could get one. Plain and simple. Next, When Cotant told Praska to get a chair he had already been summond by the refs. He cannot ignore the refs without taking a penalty. Cotant has demostrated that his time has long paased at PHS and he needs to turn the job over to someone who can be fair and wise. |

| Where were the "maintenance engineers" aka janitors? They should have been setting up chairs before Highland arrived. Since Poky students take pride in their school, they may have helped if asked. If Cotant/some staff and of course the school district deserve a wage increase then do your job. You complain the students lack respect for authority, so you suspend one teacher/coach who they greatly respect? Shame on you!!! PS What's up with increasing Irving students time at school next year? Why not DECREASE the days given for early realease so teachers can Prep? | |

No Chairs
| Who cares who's job is was to get chairs? Highland needs to put up and shut up! If Bell wanted to lead by example in how to be a man, then he would have let his wrestlers do the talking on the mat. All he taught those kids was that if you are Highland and you cry enough, you will get what you want. | |

HIGHLAND DID PUT UP...AND THEY ARE NOT THE ONES WHO CRIED ABOUT ANYTHING!
HIGHLAND DID NOT START THIS! COACH BELL DID NOT START THIS. Highland DID NOT GO TO COTANT and complain or bring this up. THE ADMINISTRATION OF POCATELLO HIGH CAME TO THEM to apologize before the match started. When Todd wouldn't comply with Cotant to put up chairs, Highland volunteered to go get the chairs.Todd said , "no way!" The Highland coaches were "called on" and "taunted" by the Pocatello coach and a father before the match. They responded back. Obviously you did not know what was going on. Bell DID let his wrestlers do the talking....they were not crying, complaining, or anything else. They beat Poky by a huge margin. Were you there? Coach Bell does lead by example and he complies with his administration. This has nothing to do with Highland wrestlers or coaches. This is an issue between a Poky coach and his administrator. There were some heated exchanges on both sides....the Poky coach wouldn't shake a wrestler's hand after one individual match..and at least one wrestler purposely would not shake hands with a Highland coach. NO big deal but that coach didn't lead by example. The idea that Highland caused this is ridiculous. I agree...let the wrestler's do the talking on the mat and they did. I think the score was 58-18. This is not a highland-poky issue. This is a poky-poky issue. |

Unbelievable Comments
| Bell did not throw a fit. A lot of people heard the conversation between him and the administrators when he was asking where he and the wrestlers could go and get some chairs. At that point he wasn't even upset. Praska yelled across the room for everyone to hear "Don't get them chairs". Maybe Just me missed that part. Even then Bell just walked away. Everyone needs to quit blaming and support your coach and team! | |

| Not only suspended but ban from wrestling for life! and be ordered to undergo counseling. For a coach not to provide a chair for an opposing coach that is the worst thing one could ever do!!!! In some countries he would be in prison for life maybe even shot. If Bell wants a chair then get the man a chair! God forbid that Bell get his hands dirty carrying a chair to his favorite spot on the mat. That would toss the world into turmoil. Poky needs to go to Ashley furniture and buy the biggest, most comfortable chair thier is and have it reserved for Bell in the school just in case he shows up. | |

Coach Praska
| Coach Praska is one of the best coaches and teachers that this school district will ever have. Travis Bell started this years ago when he and Mr. Ross refused to move the Highland/Poky Duel to the big gym to accomodate both teams and their families and fans. After years of not having enough room to wrestle and Poky not having chairs to sit on and the Poky wrestlers having to sit on the bleachers and the floor-enough is enough!! Coach Praska returned the kind of hospitality that we've been receiving from Highland for a long time!!! Only difference is Poky's coach got suspended and Bell didn't for the same exact thing. Travis Bell did get in Praska's face - I was there. As usual, Bell likes to start crap with Poky, but doesn't have the balls to back it up by himself. Always crying to the administration - Have you ever seen a Poky wrestler in the Highland room practicing? We've had many Highland wrestlers in Poky's room getting coached by Praska, you know, the freestyle that Bell hates so much. They come into the Poky room and get the best coaching and are treated just like everyone else by Praska - just ask all that have done it. A Poky wrestler would never be let in the door at Highland. | |

| Iwas also at the wrestling match when the chair situation occurred.I thought the highland kids were treated very well by the poky coaches for a job well done! They wrestled awesome but there coach was so busy wanting to fight with the poky coaches, he could not even concentrate on his job! His assistant coach did a very good job,and perhaps he should be the head coach! One last comment, I truly believe Todd is an awesome coach and should be reinstated immediately! He coaches the young kids at freestyle and what a kind gentle coach for everyone! P.S. I have no children at either high school but i say LET THE KIDS WRESTLE! | |

| So, some Highland "god" doesn't get his chairs and all hell breaks loose? Highland never does wrong and they should be worshipped. | |

Who is crying? Highland and their coaches weren't crying...they knew what was going on and why and accepted the situation. They came to wrestle no matter where they sat. NO HIGHLAND COACH COMPLAINED TO ANYONE. Ask your administration how this all came about. The problem is with Praska and his insubordination toward his own principal. I am so sick of people turning things around and blaming Highland or Bell for this. About Bell's being upset....Someone from Poky's bench called him on about an entirely different issue , a personal issue stemming from comments made days before. There were exchanges from both sides. Highland/ Poky games, matches are always heated. To defame either coach is wrong....they sacrifice so much and love their wrestlers. These hateful comments do nothing but spur on senseless rhetoric. By the way, Bell has never refused to move to the big gym. He didn't have the luxury of that choice. Coaches make do with what they have. Coaches do what the school district, principals, athletic directors tell them to do, or they get in trouble. The conflict was between Praska and his administration...not Praska and Highland. Tearing down Highland, Coach Bell, that maybe feels good to some of you....but they aren't responsible for this. Saying nasty, sarcastic things about Bell or Highland's wrestling program...relieves some people's anger, but that doesn't help Coach Praska. Good luck, Todd. Keep up the great coaching skills for your kids. Regardless of what some of your fans think...there really are dedicated, sacrificing, loving ,talented wrestling coaches at both Highland and Pocatello and Century. You know Coach Bell and you know he is not responsible for your suspension. |

| Reinstate Praska! Bell should be the one sitting this one out. Poor Highland they do what ever they can in every sport to intimidate their opponent. They think the are the kings of sports in this city. The entire school is sacrificed for football. My kid took two classes there and during football playoffs spent three class periods, yes 3, making signs for the games.Century had 3 sports this fall take district. How many did Highland have? We are all sick of the drama up on the hill. Todays paper stated how the basketball team shaved their heads with their numbers and watched movies to build team spirit. Maybe next time if they want to be a team, dont shave your individual numbers in your head, shave a ram. "Ladies" on the hill leave the drama for The View. | |

Let's set the record right! Praska in all the time I have known him from 2001 to this day has never in any way shape or form been rude disrepectful or unwilling to help out wher ever needed. He has been an embodyment of the best values that can be conveyed by any man in a posistion to lead teach and direct young minds that WILL one day become our leaders. We have an obligation and honor to stand by this man at anytime to defend his honor and right. As a graduate of Pocatello highschool and a U.S. Marine I would have never become anything I am now If it was not for praskas fairness and respect and dignity he has for all who look up to him. At this point in time it is obvious that the school district has lost it's number one priority in it's sole existance, the students. I am ashamed to say that SD25 has lost all foundations and morals needed to operate efficiently as a place of learning and education. Veteran of two wars |
