Southeastern District Health Department to Celebrate World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1st. The World Health Organization established World AIDS Day in 1988 to provide governments, national AIDS programs, faith organizations, community organizations, and individuals with an opportunity to raise awareness and focus attention on the global AIDS epidemic. The theme for World AIDS Day 2009 is 'Universal Access and Human Rights'.
Valuable progress has been made in increasing access to HIV/AIDS services, yet greater commitment is needed around the world if the goal of universal access is to be achieved.
In Pocatello, the HIV/AIDS Regional Planning Council will be holding our local event Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 309 Garfield Avenue. The evening will feature personal videos from young adults living with HIV/AIDS from around the world produced by Hope’s Voice Campaign, “Does HIV Look Like Me?”
The celebration will include a tree-lighting ceremony, a candle-lighting ceremony and a memorial service. Refreshments will be served.
